CHAIRMAN OF TRUSTEE’S LETTER

I have no doubt that some people are asking when is the Memorial Hall going to be opened. I cannot give you a date but I can tell you that we are hoping work will start on the roof in the summer.

The problem is that we have to apply for grants to fund the work and the Trustees with the Hall Committee and volunteers from the village are working on preparing the paperwork.

Fortunately, we have had generous offers from three firms in the village, Mr. Dave Mew of Ernie Mew & Sons Ltd has offered to repair the roof for just the cost of the materials required, which has made a tremendous difference to the costs we have to find. Also we have had an offer to provide the security fencing around the Hall free of charge from Paul Hobbs of Dyer & Butler, again saving considerable expense. Finally, Brad Bull of SCES Air Conditioning Ltd has offered to donate a unit for the Blue Room in the Hall which will make the room ideal for meetings etc. in summer and winter. The Parish Council have also kindly given a grant of £ 5,000 to fund the temporary scaffolding.

I am sure there are many more people who will help the Memorial Hall get back into operation, after all it is there for the benefit of the residents of Clanfield. If you have an interest in the Hall come to the Public Meeting that will be held at 7:00pm on the 22nd April at Petersgate School, during which we will hold the AGM. We have some ideas for the future but we would like to know what you think should be done to take the Hall into the 21st Century!
